subject: High Heels: No Pain No Gain? [print this page] If you have ever had to walk home from a party or night out with your stilettos in your bag, carefully trying to avoid the broken glass on the floor then you will understand the pain that high heels bring. Why else would we subject ourselves to the cold, hard pavement? After a night dancing in a new pair of shoes the feel of the cool concrete is as welcome as a pair of slippers after a long day at work. So many women put up with the searing pain of blisters and twisted ankles all in the name of a must have pair of platform heels or wedges, but why do we do it? Like many women my wardrobe doors strain to close thanks to the huge number of shoes that I have, however even the ones that cause the most pain will never be thrown out.
There are ways to battle the sometimes inevitable pain that comes from wearing in a new pair of high heel shoes. Several stores offer shoes designed to provide comfort, including the new line of Naturalizer shoes that combine both comfort and style. Cushioned insoles are another great way to ward off shoe pain however even the best insoles may not be able to help you after hours bopping away to the latest tunes in a nightclub. There are many old wives tales about how to stop your feet from feeling the pinch, one slightly incredulous way is to soak your feet in vodka before hitting the town, however in todays financial climate who has the money for shoes and spirits? My trick is to spend the days leading up to a shoes debut wearing them around the home, just do not fall for the trick of walking solely on carpet on them as you may get a shock after an hour on the hard dance floor.
Many women tell themselves that after the first couple of wears; a shoe will become as comfortable as a comfy pair of slippers however this hardly ever happens. If you choose to wear a sky high pair of platforms, wedges or stiletto heels you take the consequences. I do not think I am alone in thinking that the compromise is worth it, especially when your shoes look amazing with your new outfit. Plus there is no shame in sitting out a couple of dances to rest your feet, as the old saying goes, no pain-no gain so get used to the blisters ladies!
