subject: Arrests Made In Polo Road Thefts [print this page]

A recent string of thefts and break-ins on Polo Road in Winston-Salem has resulted in the arrest of two teens and one adult. The criminal charges range from first-degree burglary to larceny of a vehicle to possession of stolen goods. It was not clear whether any of those arrested had retained a criminal defense attorney.

When police responded to the initial report of a burglary on Polo Road, they went to the address in question. However, upon arriving in the Winston-Salem neighborhood, officers quickly learned of multiple break-ins and vehicle thefts in the area. A total of five homes had been burglarized and multiple vehicles had been stolen. Winston-Salem police were able to locate the vehicles at a nearby apartment complex. The three suspects, all residents of Winston-Salem, were apprehended soon after.

Winston-Salem police have indicated that despite the arrests, the criminal investigation is ongoing as they believe other suspects may be involved. The adult arrested in connection with the break-ins has a prior criminal record. Because he had a gun on his person at the time of the arrest, he faces additional criminal charges related to the possession of a firearm by a convict and possession of a stolen firearm.

Despite the myriad of charges facing these Winston-Salem men and the amount of stolen property found in their possession at the time of their arrests, each of them has the right to a criminal defense attorney. Although many residents of Winston-Salem may shake their heads in wonder that the men could ever provide any sort of legitimate defense given the evidence against them, the right to adequate representation is one of our most important liberties and it cannot be denied to anyone.

Most of the head-shaking falls by the wayside when our own need for a criminal defense attorney arises. None of us is immune from being accused of a crime. Whether a former spouse accuses us of domestic violence in order to win a custody battle, we are stopped for DUI because we were driving somewhat erratically after an exhausting week at work, or a co-worker attempts to blame us for funds that are missing from the company, there may come a time when we are very thankful that we live in a country where we are guaranteed the opportunity to have a criminal defense attorney represent us in court.

If you have been charged with a crime in Winston-Salem, you can benefit from that same right by contacting a Winston-Salem criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. Even more than affording you your right to adequate legal counsel, your Winston-Salem criminal defense attorney will work to protect your freedom and your reputation.
