subject: Mahindra Mini Xylo Coming This August [print this page]

Fresh rumours suggest that Mahindra Mini Xylo MPV which the company had been testing for a long time can be finally launched in India by the month of August 2012. The mini MPV will be under four meters of length and hence will get benefited by the low excise duty levied on cars under four meters of length. Mahindra sure will get benefits from this new compact MPV, the customers also will get a frugal option with a low priced MPV. Mahindra Mini Xylo MPV will be the first of its kind as no other MPV in India has length less than four meters. The MPV will have short dimensions but despite of this fact, Mahindra claims that it will still be able to seat seven people comfortably inside the cabin. The last two seat at the rear would be the jump seats of the car which could be little uncomfortable.

Mahindra Mini Xylo will be an over sized hatchback that will give hatchbacks in the premium segment a good threat, people would definitely want to upgrade to a MPV instead of splurging money on a premium hatchback as Mini Xylo is expected to cost close to it. Mahindra Mini Xylo price is likely to be placed under Rs 5 lakh, Mini Xylo is sure going to give its rivals a run for their money. Mahindra is known for adopting effective marketing strategy for its cars which somehow every time works. A very good example of this is Mahindra Xylo, which was marketed as a sedan killer when it was launched in India. Another SUV from Mahindra"s stable, Mahindra XUV 500 is also giving nightmares to the D segment sedans thanks its aggressive pricing. And we expect Mini Xylo to repeat the same success as it will be pitched against premium hatchbacks. Mahindra Mini Xylo MPV is expected to come powered with a 1.5 litre, three cylinder turbo diesel engine.

What remains to be seen is whether people accept this type of MPV, would it sell like hot cakes. If it does, would that only be because of the low pricing and nothing else? Low priced cars are certainly in high demand, but does that imply that all people are looking for is a four wheeled wagon that can give the comfort of four to five people commuting together. Has comfort been confined to only owing a four wheeler no matter what it offers? India as everyone knows is a price sensitive market and low priced cars have always gained immense success here be it a hatchback or sedan. May be this is the reason why hatchbacks have been a major hit in India and now when the technology is so advanced, car makers are trying to inculcate these traits in SUVs and MPVs. But why such a sudden switch from hatchbacks to SUVs and MPVs? The humongous utility vehicles offer ample space in comparison to hatchbacks, they offer better seating space and ample boot space to store luggage also. Therefore it is definitely a better option over a premium hatchback which might proffer luxury features but cannot defy the ample space a SUV and MPV offers.

Mahindra Mini Xylo has still a lot of time for its launch well if not lot then at least there few weeks to go if we go by the information that it is launching in August, so we have wait until then to see customers" response for the under four meter MPV. Another good example which proves that compact sized MPV are being accepted well by the Indian buyers is of Maruti"s latest venture in the Indian car market, Maruti Ertiga. Maruti Ertiga has received immense response from the customers, though this car is not less than four meters, but yet it has been able to lure the customers, thanks to its low price that begins at Rs 5.85 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for its petrol version. However, the diesel version of the compact MPV is more in demand than the petrol variant. We hope that Mahindra Mini Xylo will also get the same response as its elder sibling Xylo got and it goes on to be a hot seller in the domestic market.
