As soon as this news came out, concerns from all aspects of the society have been raised. On May 25th, the Risk Assessment National Center for Food Safety made response to the relevant work for detecting the "waste oil", saying that relevant authorities are matching "waste oil" for the test of the authenticity and reliability of the 7 types of detection methods for evaluation assessment.
On December 13 2011, Ministry of Health published to collect the detection method of the sewage oil from the public through the website, and entrusted the Risk Assessment National Center for Food Safety to collect the methods and work out the feasibility of these methods. The Centre received a total of 762 "waste oil" detection methods proposed, and after these methods have been filtered, methods offered by 30 units will be assessed.
According to reports, in order to guarantee the authenticity and reliability of evaluation samples, in the test the normal vegetable oil samples will be obtained from the edible oil manufacturers directly. "Waste oils" samples will be collected by the staff in the Center from in Shandong, Guizhou, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and other places. All the samples have been determined as the waste oil by the public security Department. And then the "waste oil" will be made into the test samples which will be used to verify the authenticity and reliability of the detection methods.
At present, three principles proposed by the Center for detecting "waste oil" have been established after discussion. First of all normal vegetable oil sample should not be misjudged and, secondly, the rate of correctness must be guaranteed. Third, the "waste oil" sample can be divided according to different levels correct detection rate high; again, blending the "waste oil" samples from the high to the low gradient.
According to the public, none of the sewage oil can be allowed into the market as nobody can be sure how serious the potential danger it may bring to the heath.
