subject: Steps To Keep Skin Young And Smooth [print this page]

Some people find that growing old is a bad thing. I'm not sure how that could be the case considering that it's inevitable for us all. And not getting old is...well, fatal. For the most part, it seems as if some people have issues with aging simply because of the effects that it has on their personal appearances.

Let's face it, wrinkles are also inevitable, right? But they don't have to be the end of the world. There are many ways, by the way, to help keep your skin from getting wrinkled prematurely. On HubPages.com, Helena Ricketts provides some simple tips to help you to avoid getting wrinkles on your face at an early age.

Say No To Tanning. This one is hard to avoid for summer lovers. I must admit myself that when the sun is out, I enjoy being underneath it. But as Ricketts points out, tanning dries out your skin and therefore ages it at an alarming rate. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to avoid tanning beds at all costs.

It's bad enough that the sun emits harmful UV rays. There's no need to intensify the damage to your skin. And, as you may have guessed, it's always recommended that you wear a strong sunscreen whenever you are out in the sun. Remember that you can still tan while wearing sunscreen. But avoiding cooking your skin will help stave off the early appearance of wrinkles.

Ricketts actually points out an interesting reason why tanning leads to wrinkles. Because it dries out your skin, tanning limits your skin's elasticity. So when people stretch their skin through simple actions such as smiling or talking, the skin is unable to go back to its normal shape properly.

Wear Sunglasses. Shades are obviously great for eye protection. But they are also excellent at protecting the skin surrounding your eyes. Want to avoid crow's feet? Invest in a nice pair of sunglasses. This isn't just something you should do during the summer months either, reminds Ricketts.

Sunglasses help to deflect the UV rays that bounce off of snow during the winter time. They also assist in preventing the squint reflex that causes the skin to bunch up around the eyes. Wrinkles around the eyes are generally the first aspects of a face that are recognized as signs of aging. So a hip pair of shades can really make you look younger in more ways than one!
