subject: Water Works Products That Matter [print this page]

If you're in the plumbing business, work for a company that sets up plumbing in a customer's home, or are part of a city management team, you need to know what water works products are important to your system. There is practically no limit to this list, of course. Everything from tubing to tools to various brass fittings to hydrants can be an important element you may need at one time or another. What is most important to you or your company will depend greatly on what kinds of systems you are installing and repairing. Here, however, are three things that will find priority in nearly every application.

Backflow Preventers

Any utility must be concerned with contamination. One of the best things you can install to prevent this contamination is a backflow preventer. Of course, you don't just need one; you need one that does what it says it will do. That means availing yourself of water works products that are a cut above the standard. Look for wholesale companies that believe in providing their clients with inventory that meets or exceeds government regulations. While buying top-of-the-line backflow preventers can be expensive, the cost is nothing compared to the cleanup costs that accompany a contamination breach.

Pipes

Plumbing wouldn't exist in its current form if it were not for pipes. While every utility and company will have their preferences when it comes to materials (clay, metal, PVC, etc.), it is making sure that you get quality water works products that matters when it comes to transporting water to a customer's home. One feature you should probably look for, however, is the use of flanges when it comes to connecting one pipe to another. These flanges prevent disaster from occurring when high pressures become a factor.

Meters

A utility must be vigilant when it comes to metering their customers' usage. Without accurate meters, you cannot hope to bill your customers for the appropriate amounts. This works in both the favor of the end user and the utility. A customer doesn't want to pay for usage above what they actually utilized and a utility can't afford to give their services away for free. Installing a modern, accurate meter can mean the difference between making an appropriate profit and sailing into bankruptcy. Look for a company that sells water works products that include excellent meters. By installing them and checking them on a regular basis, you can ensure everything is in order and avoid conflict with your customers.
