subject: Using Clean Burning Gel Flame Fireplaces [print this page]

With fossil fuels beginning to run low and carbon dioxide emissions that burning these fuels causes, many people are looking at different ways to heat certain room in their homes.

One alternative is a gel flame fireplace; it's an environmentally friendly bio-fuel (it's an isopropyl alcohol fuel in gel form and is non-toxic and doesn't produce smoke or fumes. Interestingly, when it burns you get a crackling effect, just like a real wood fire which really makes the gel flame fire seem authentic. A gel fire produces a vibrant orange, red and yellow flame that does look remarkably like a flame from a real fire.

Best of all it burns completely cleanly and doesn't leave any soot or ashes and doesn't produce any carbon monoxide, making it much safer than some other fossils fuel. Unlike a gas fire a gel flame fire doesn't require venting which also makes it a great choice for putting into almost any room in your home, including bedrooms, which you wouldn't do with a gas fire.

Another benefit is they are portable, so you can always choose to move it from one place to another. Likewise, when you have that moment when you feel you want to rearrange a room in your home no longer do you have to work around where the fireplace is, you can move a gel flame fireplace to wherever you want. Gel flame fireplaces are independent units, so you don't need to fit any wiring or piping. This means installation is simple and keeps the cost down.

The gel comes in a can; there are different size cans, but on average you can expect one can to last about three hours. This obviously is the downside, but it does mean that if you fall asleep or go to bed without putting the flame out, the fuel will run out which of course does not happen with a gas or electric fire.

Putting out the flame is easy; just use a snuffer or place a lid on the fuel can. Remember, while a gel flame fire does produce plenty of heat, it is not designed to be a primary source of heat. Use a gel flame fire to top-up the temperature, and provide a warm welcoming glow anywhere in your home. You can always burn two or three cans at the same time if you want to produce more heat or a larger flame effect.

A gel flame fire gives you a terrific looking safe and friendly alternative to burning fossil fuels. It's environmentally friendly and gel flame fires have been found to be of benefit to those with allergies and respiratory conditions.

There is no need to have any concerns about smoke, carbon monoxide or any other chemicals that a fossil fuels produce. Additionally, you never have to think about cleaning up ashes or other remnants that you find when you use some other forms of fuels, such a logs or coal. A gel flame fire gives you a real alternative.
