Are you going in the Latter-day Saints temple for the first time to perform your own ordinances? Or are you going in for your wedding or temple sealing? Well, whether it is for your wedding, sealing or other ordinances, you would need to prepare for it. Along with this preparation is the proper attire for the temple. Youll need to wear approved wedding dresses if you are getting married and just the required LDS temple dresses if you are to do other ordinances.

But probably you are thinking what the differences are of LDS wedding dresses and temple dresses. There are quite a few actually and you will need to know this before you buy or have a dress made. Here are some points to be acquainted with:

LDS Wedding Dresses

These are actually just the usual wedding gowns brides wear during their wedding. The only thing to remember is it should be modest. There are certain requirements for a wedding gown to be modest and pass the LDS criteria such as pure white, long skirt, with sleeves, high neckline and back. But aside from those criteria, here is its difference with the temple dresses:

-It can be worn inside the temple and outside in the grounds.

-It is just worn by brides for weddings.

-You can make it stylish; add embellishments and other fabric designs.

-Sleeves can be short when in the temple grounds, and you can just wear a long-sleeved blazer when inside. You can also put on a train and veil once outside in the grounds.

-You can have variety of styles in the neckline, back and collar as long as it is high enough to cover the garments.

LDS Temple Dresses

These are the usual dresses women wear when inside the temple while doing all the ordinances. Female temple workers wear these kinds of dresses while they work inside the temple. The requirement of modesty, as mentioned above in the wedding dresses, works the same for temple dresses. They should be pure white, long sleeves, high neckline and back and long skirt.

However, these are the differences with the wedding dresses:

-It can be worn only inside the temple.

-It can be worn by brides for their weddings if they do not have wedding gowns and it can also be worn for other temple ordinances.

-It cannot be as stylish and as embellished as wedding dresses since it need to maintain its simplicity as white long dress with no grand designs that can catch attention.

-It needs to have long sleeves, and with no train at the back or veil on the head.

-It must have a high round neckline from the back to front.
