subject: Our Splendid Monsoon Trip To Mysore [print this page] Last year we had already decided to enjoy monsoon season at some exotic destination. At the onset of monsoon many offers started appearing in advertisements, making it difficult for us to decide which offer should be accepted. On closely monitoring these offers we observed one thing in common that these offers were most competitive compared to summer vacation offers. There is a great demand and rush of the tourists to the summer destinations, whereas monsoon is the offseason period. Obviously the monsoon vacations are cheaper.
India being a large country in area the seasons are not uniform throughout the country. Similarly monsoon in different parts of the country can be moderate to harsh. Some places in India receive more rain and get flooded due to excessive rains, whereas many of the monsoon destinations are really romantic destinations. From the many monsoon offers for different destinations we selected a monsoon trip to Mysore. The reason behind selecting this destination was it doesnt rain continuously in Mysore and when it rains it doesnt rain for a long time. There is a possibility to have some sunshine even during the monsoon season. We availed a monsoon package offered by Hotel United-21 at Mysore. It was a Mysore/Ooty- Kodaikanal sandwich package for 6 nights and 7 days. We booked the Mysore part of the package which was for 3 nights and 4 days. The package included stay at Hotel United-21, Mysore with meals and sightseeing.
The best part of the package was travelling by road and that too mostly in the day time. Travelling by road during day time is really a fascinating experience, since surroundings in monsoon region are green with a cheering cool climate. We reached the hotel sometimes late in the night got refreshed, had our dinner and went to our accommodation in the hotel. The accommodations were more sophisticated than our expectations. The food included most of the popular Mysore delicacies. Next day morning we were all eager to go out and enjoy Mysores romantic monsoon days. Outside it was cloudy waiting for the showers to resume. Our group leader informed us that first day will be dedicated to visit nearby locations especially the palaces. While the next whole day will be at the Shivanasamudra waterfalls located just eighty five km from Mysore. We had our breakfast and we were taken in a bus to the grand Mysore palace. We were not much lucky because we missed the light show at the palace. The day witnessed little showers and ended up with the visit to the nearby places.
Next day early morning we started for Shivanasamudra waterfalls in a real monsoon atmosphere. The journey to the waterfalls was magnificent, with panoramic views of the landscapes displaying nearly every shade of Green. We were really mesmerized by the views and thought that the journey should not end. When we reached the falls we were really amazed by the captivating scene. The island of Shivanasamudra divides river Cauvery into two different falls the Gaganchukki falls shaped like a horsetail and Bharachukki falls. We went up the watch tower to get a fantastic view of the Gaganachukki waterfalls. Viewing the milky water of the falls jumping from a great height was a memorable moment. Nobody was interested in moving away from the place and we stayed at the sight till late evening.
The third half day was for nearby sightseeing and remaining day was for other activities like shopping and eating out. Fourth day morning we started for the back journey taking with us the never to forget Mysore Monsoon memories.
