subject: What Are Combination Boilers? [print this page]

Combination boilers have been used in homes for several years now and are still very popular. Some of the older models proved to be inefficient and unreliable. With technological advances, the newer models are better and more efficient and are used in almost 50% UK homes. These appliances range widely in terms of pricing depending on dimensions, power consumptions and brand. They are quite compact and therefore dont require much space for installation. They dont involve any water cylinders or tanks and offer instantly heated water throughout the home.

How Do these Appliances Work?

Combination boilers prove to be efficient because of the unique way in which they function. Basically, these appliances have two functions- they heat your home as well as offer you hot water. When your home temperature dips below the temperature you have set on your thermostat, the appliance will be automatically notified to fire up. The smaller gap in the pipes builds pressure as water flows through it. The pressure ultimately opens the gas valve. Once gas has been ignited, the heat exchanger will heat up the water. The valve will close automatically when the ideal temperature is reached. The heating system valve will then open. Hot water is passed through the valve and is circulated throughout the home to provide it heat.

Combination boilers also perform another function. They offer you hot water which is used in baths and showers. Water is heated the same way it is done for central heating. The taps here signal the appliance when water needs to be heated up. These appliances can heat 12 liters of water every minute using its heat exchanger. The heat is transferred to the water from the burning flame and it then flows through your taps.

Applications

Many manufacturers claim that their appliances provide heated water in multiple bathrooms. However, the model, its capacity and your lifestyle and hot water usage at home will decide how efficiently and sufficiently this is done. There are a large number of heating appliances that you will find in stores today to select from. You will need to explore all the available choices. Consider your needs, number of family members and the size in your home before you select one. If you have a larger home, you will need an appliance which is efficient enough to heat up the entire space. You will also need to decide which model no and size you need. Combination boilers are definitely cost effective, efficient and suitable for use in homes of all sizes and for any home today because of their dual functions.
