subject: The Butterfly Garden By Insect Lore [print this page]

The Butterfly Garden by Insect Lore is certainly an wonderful product. Kids love this and the best part is it's educational also. My daughter has a pretty extensive thing for butterflies so it is one of those things we had to get her for the spring. One word of advice, I probably would not buy this getting on towards the chilly seasons since the caterpillars will possibly not do so great and you certainly won't be able to free the butterflies without killing them. With that said, the warmer months is the ideal occasion to get this though.

The Insect Lore Butterfly Garden comes with 5 caterpillars and the precise amount of food. The caterpillars love this food, I know a person that tried to give them real food, leaves, and they wouldn't touch it so just stick to what is included in the program and you will be okay. The Caterpillars will go to the chrysalides point and then change into exquisite butterflies, all in roughly 3 weeks or so and it's pretty impressive to watch.

This is truly easy to do and my 4 1/2 year old was able to accomplish almost everything herself. When the butterflies come out from their cocoons we kept them for a few days and released them. We planted several butterfly plants in the backyard so they stuck around for a bit. We also lucked out in that the butterflies laid some eggs and we currently have a number of newborn caterpillars that we are feeding and raising so with a bit of luck they will go through all the phases over again and we are able to have a large group of butterflies for our garden all summer long.

The Live butterfly garden was a fantastic experience. Your kids are gonna absolutely love this and to be honest, several adults will get a kick out of it too. This was something I had a terrific time doing with my daughter and she not only learned a whole lot about butterflies but, she remembers what she learned. The hands on portion of it made the whole thing genuinely stick with her and she still can tell you rather a lot about the life cycle of a butterfly, it's pretty magnificent to say the least.
