Relatively recent studies have enabled the emergence of a new area of medical research known as psychoneuroimmunology. It is the science that investigates how the feelings experienced consciously or unconsciously, interfere with the production of hormones and the body's defenses.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), 80% of cases of heart attacks and strokes and 40% of cancers can be avoided with a better lifestyle. Your genes do not determine your destination. Is your lifestyle able turn on or off good or bad genes? This is epigenetics, a branch of science that studies this relationship and represents a milestone in understanding the emergence and evolution of diseases.

Effects of stress on health

According to surveys conducted by International Stress Management Association in Brazil (Isma-BR), which develops strategies to eliminate the problem, 70% of economically active Brazilians suffer negative effects of stress. With compromised immunity, they have more colds, herpes, candidiasis, and infections in general. Nothing less than 3.5% of GDP is spent on stress and its consequences, and the companies this is the leading cause of absenteeism - when a worker absence for health reasons - and presenteeism, when worker does not performs his duties properly due health problems.

The second largest expense in the areas of human resources is with medical assistance and even then, only 1% to 5% of Brazilian companies have regular programs of quality of life. On average, 15% to 20% of employees are suffering from a chronic disease, and these account for 75% of health spending in the companies, because they lead to absenteeism and early retirement.

Do not just be "apparently" disease free. The well-being, in the fullest sense, depends on a keen eye on what makes them appear. Each one builds his health when responsibility for it. Health is not everything, but without it, the rest is nothing.
