subject: Moving To Caleta De Fuste? [print this page] It was in the early 1980's when I first visited Fuerteventura with my parents and to be completely honest I wasn't that overly impressed! Ok so I was at the wrong age to fully appreciate scenery and fantastic beaches. To me a mountain was a mountain and a beach a beach! On my return seven years ago with my girlfriend I fell in love with the place and decided to make the move from the cold UK and settle in Fuerteventura.
I chose the resort of Caleta de Fuste on the East coast as home - not a particularly busy resort but still lots to do and handily not too far from the airport! We contacted an estate agent before we got there so everything was organised for our arrival. We initially rented for three months to make sure we actually liked the place before agreeing on a year to year contract.
Within just a few days the place felt like home! Locals made us feel so welcome and we realised what a large British community there really was. We quickly made friends and my girlfriend found work in a restaurant within a week or so.
Although not heavy drinkers we do enjoy a pint or two after work so generally head to the beach in the summer evenings to enjoy a cool beer whilst watching the sun go down or a more local bar in the winter months as the breeze can be a little chilly! Days off are spent relaxing on the beach or we often hire a car and explore inland. Even after all these years we often come across a secluded beach on our travels or find yet another traditional Canarian Tapa's bar where the best food on the island can be sampled.
Family often visit and whether it is for a week or just a weekend it's a fantastic chance to catch up and spend some quality time together.
Overall our move to Fuerteventura was the best decision we ever made. Life is far less hectic now and evenings can be spent in the garden rather than huddled up indoors trying to keep warm! Family and friends are just a four hour flight away and in general we enjoy a far better way of life - especially financially!
So if you are planning on moving to Fuerteventura then do not hesitate. Warm weather, blue skies, gorgeous beaches, loads of restaurants and great night life - now what more could you ask for?!
