subject: Recruitment Agencies Around Johannesburg Operate In A Sophisticated Environment [print this page]

Recruitment agencies around Johannesburg work in the City of Gold. In popular discourse it is more affectionately known as Jozi. Before gold was discovered beneath a ridge of hills known as the ridge of white waters few people settled there. Hunters and gatherers came and went without realizing that they were walking over a vast treasure trove. After the discovery of gold in the nineteenth century employment opportunities proliferated and the momentum continues.

When fortune hunters arrived from around the world they brought energy and enterprise with them. The mining town exploded into one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, a thriving, bustling city that is the capital of the province now known as Gauteng. People who live their seem to absorb go-getting attitudes. They speak brusquely, drive fast cars and are intent on income.

But not all people in Jozi are millionaires. For many years migrant workers have come in on trains, worked in mines and sent their earnings home to support families. In some cases they have stayed and become permanent residents, contributing to the expanding population and imbued with the same go-getting spirit of the neighbors.

Some of the world's deepest and richest mines were once beneath the city streets. Now they are empty tunnels and the great mining companies are searching elsewhere on the planet for yet undiscovered resources. Nevertheless, above the empty mines the city continues to vibrate with energy and enterprise, driven by its own momentum. What was once the city of gold has little gold left.

Unlike other urban giants Jozi is not a port or border town. With its gold gone it has no reason to exist except its population of energetic and enterprising people. They have become its golden resource. Their energy and activity generates the economic life that hums out from the city through a network of roads and routes into the rest of the country.

The city and its people form a hub around which the economy of the country revolves. Their initiative spills out from the center into surrounding territories. Banks, insurance companies, green industries and software companies are headquartered in Joburg with tentacles reaching out to touch the remotest corners of the country. The solid network of roads and rails is supplemented now by a much more intricate network of electronic communication channels.

In general it has at last dawned on economists that the richness of a culture is more important for economic growth than science and technology are. People who enjoy sport, like art and understand the need for environmental protection created demands. Technology seeks way to satisfy demand and so economies thrive.

Recruitment agencies around Johannesburg now search for people in almost all areas of endeavor. The wealth that has been created in the past has been used to build huge mansions and plant one of the biggest man-made urban forests in the world to shade the leisure hours of hard working people. There are jobs for landscapers, architects, textile manufacturers, software engineers, actors, bankers and doctors. Fortune hunters coming to this city even start their own original businesses creating new jobs and goods that add to the momentum.
