subject: An Overview Of The Gardening Year [print this page] Spring Spring
Spring is the time of renewal when the winter is finally starting to ebb away, the temperature is getting warmer and fewer cases of frost occur.
Spring bulbs such as snowdrops are beginning to show and fruit trees are blossoming.
The main seasonal jobs to do at this time are cleaning (both of your tools and your greenhouse), planting and sowing, weeding and mulching and also the pruning of your Roses.
This is the time you will need your Garden Hoes, Garden Trowels and a good pair of Secateurs.
Summer
The time of rejoicing when your roses, herbaceous perennials and bedding plants are at their very best and your lawns and hedges are growing quickly.
It is no surprise therefore that some of the main seasonal tasks you will be confronted with around this time is mowing, hedge clipping, hoeing you veg plot to get rid of weeds and the feeding and watering of your plants (hosepipe bans permitting).
This is the time for your Hosepipes, Water Butts, Lawnmowers and Electric Hedge Clippers as you will be kept very busy. Dont worry though there will still be sufficient time for you to sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labours with a few friends round and some meat on the BBQ.
Autumn
The time of autumn leaves showing hues of brown and yellow giving great contrast to the greens and gorgeous blooms experienced in summer. Often for many the most romantic time of the year when the leaves are falling and the fruits and berries are abundant.
This is the time for planting your bulbs for next year, planting of trees and shrubs, cutting down or tidying up your shrubs and trees and carrying out general lawn maintenance such as scarifying.
Often the time when a good Lawn Rake, Tree Loppers and a handy Petrol Garden Scarifier comes into its own.
Winter
The time for coloured shrub stems, tree bark and evergreens. This is often the most reflective part of the year for any keen Gardeners.
Now is the time for digging and preparing your soil for the coming year, planning and designing your new years masterpieces and deciding crop rotations, carrying out any construction tasks and any general maintenance and repair work.
The time for a good sturdy Garden Spade and a good, warm set of gloves.
