Water parks are a great vacation spot during the hot summer months and they also have the benefit of having hotels close to the water park so a family can stay overnight and enjoy the water park the entire time they are on vacation. Some families may enjoy a visit to amusement parks such as Disneyland, Six Flags, Knott's Berry Farm, or Universal Studios in California. In the eastern United States you could visit King's Dominion in Doswell, Virginia or Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida.

Visiting the local zoos and aquariums while vacationing in the area is another great way to enjoy a vacation in the United States without traveling and visiting a country that you are completely unfamiliar with. Local planetariums and museums exist in many major cities throughout the U.S.
