The white team was merciless when it came to attacking Depor, which was certainly an inferior team. The immense pressure set upon the visiting team quickly paid off after only four minutes of game-time. Cristiano Ronaldo was the responsible of the first goal with one heck of a header.
After the first goal, the white team kept on moving its lines over the field with complete authority. The despair of Depor's players didn't help either, and it would not allow the visiting team from making any valuable offensive plays on the other end of the field.
Madrid, despite their superiority, was not able to convert the dangerous situations they generated in the offensive end into goals. The Sporting, meanwhile, could not even take advantage of its opponents' mistakes in defense.
The team coached by Jose Mourinho quickly recognized followed his orders and put up a better defense, giving more speed and aggressiveness to its game. With this, Madrid punished even further a weak and disorganized Deportivo.
The Meringues began to move following Mourinho's wishes, displaying a powerful and dynamic game. With a powerful defense that was responsible for leading the meeting, the whites kept the Deportivo away from their area during the first half.
At 24 minutes, newly signed midfielder from Werder Bremen of Germany, Mesut Ozil, took advantage of the bad organization of the visitors' defense to enter the counter area and shoot on goal. He didn't miss his target.
Not content with a 2-0, Real Madrid continued with its attacks. This led to a third goal after 34 minutes of game. Angel Di Maria was enabled with a pass from Gonzalo Higuain and scored with a nice header.
During the second part, Iker Casillas, captain and keeper of Real Madrid, did an excellent job stopping the few balls that came from the attempts made by the visiting striker Lassad Nouioui.
Real Madrid put together some good plays that gave rise to more goals. At 53 minutes, Higuain scored the fourth goal. Just seven minutes later, defender Ze Castro from the visiting team, increased the score for Madrid in an unfortunate own goal.
Juan Rodriguez took advantage a little carelessness of the local defense to give his team the goal of honor. Real Madrid kept on with its attack. Cristiano Ronaldo ended the match with a nice shot after 89 minutes for the definite 6-1 win.
After this crushing victory, Real Madrid is placed third in the Spanish League with 14 points and manages to stand again among the Spanish football elite. While this was not a victory over a high-level team, Real Madrid had their best game of the season so far.
Jose Mourinho said he is proud of his team and their work and that any doubt has been created during his time as coach of Real Madrid not discouraged him. On the contrary, it however motivates him to continue reviewing and improving his work.
