Satay is small pieces of grilled meat that pinned in a skewer. This kind of food is very famous in Asia. Commonly beef or chicken are used, but in this recipe, we will use chicken meat. That's why this recipe is called Satay Ayam ("ayam" means chicken in Indonesian).
What makes Thai Satay Ayam different with Satay Ayam from another country? It's the sauce! Yes, the sauce are using coconut milk as it ingredients, Thai food typical. Coconut milk will give the crunchy sensation in your tongue. The sauce itself has a very unique taste that you can't find in another food.
Now we'll make our own Thai Satay Ayam, it's very easy and everyone can do it.
To make Thai Satay ayam you'll need:
800 g chicken
1 large clove garlic, minced
3 tablespoons of ginger chopped
10 cl of soy sauce
15 cl of milk coconut
3 tablespoons honey
6 tablespoons butter of peanuts
1 tablespoon curry
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon of lemon grass skewers
For the decoration: peanuts , chopped
With all of the ingredients above it will be enough to make Satay for 4 persons.
Step by step:
1. Soak the skewers (if it wooden) for 5 minutes. Cut chicken into small pieces.
2. In a bowl: combine garlic, ginger, soy sauce, coconut milk, honey, peanuts, curry, cumin, and turmeric for sauce.
3. Add chicken to the sauce. Let it marinate for at least 4 hours.
4. Pin the chicken pieces onto skewers, 1 skewer may have five or six pieces of the chicken meat, and then place it on oven rack. Cook for 2 minutes remaining sauce in the microwave and mix if there are pieces. Add a little coconut milk if necessary.
5. Preheat the oven (180 C) if possible by combining heat and grill. Cook for 5 minutes, turn the skewers and cook for 3 minutes.
6. Serve the skewers with the sauce and peanuts.
Another alternative is to inserting potato or paprika in the skewers between the meat. This will enrich the taste of this food. And personally, I like to eat Satay Ayam with rice.
