subject: Materials Used To Construct School Fencing [print this page]

There are many different materials that are used to construct enclosures around property. Most of the time these enclosures are designed in such a manner as to keep things off of the property, but in the instances of school fencing the enclosure is sometimes needed to keep things on the property. Things like children and their balls.

Wooden enclosures are generally placed up as purely decorative style fences around personal properties. Houses often have white picket fences encircling the yards. Some places have the split rail variety of fence that is constructed from small trees that were felled on the very property they encircle. Some of the wooden versions are used as school fencing though. The wooden ones at facilities like these are generally built tall and made into a privacy fence. They resemble a solid wooden wall and they generally hide areas like the dumpsters that have the kitchen trash in them.

School fencing is generally designed and constructed out of steel materials. The steel materials make the school fencing stronger than most other materials would make it. The steel is also very durable and long lasting. This means that the material may cost more for the school district to purchase initially but in the long run the steel will outlast most other popular construction materials.

Generally the materials that are used when constructing school fencing enclosures are galvanized. Galvanized metal does not have the tendency to rust the way other metals do. Aluminum does not rust either, but aluminum is a soft metal and you would not have poles and partitions that were very strong if they constructed them from aluminum.

When metal rusts it can create sharp edges that would have the ability to injure the children playing there. This is the main reason for galvanized posts and for galvanized wire on school property. Wooden posts would not rust, but they do rot where they are touching the ground. Wooden posts would have to be replaced more frequently than the galvanized steel tubing is.

Most of the time when wire is placed on school fencing it is welded wire. Welded wire is stronger than other versions and holds together for longer periods of time. These materials are generally used around areas where the children will be playing sporting games with balls and things of that nature.

Wrought iron is a strong material that is frequently used in some school fencing applications. Wrought iron can be made into very decorative elements for the purpose of making the school fencing look more appealing to the general public.

Anywhere that bars are placed on the panels of material they must be spaced close enough together that a child cannot get a body part hung between them. They can of course be placed far enough apart that this cannot happen, but when they are spaced too far apart the fence becomes more of a suggestion than a deterrent to thieves and vandals.

These items must be carefully considered for their longevity, durability, and any possible threat they could ever pose to the children attending the academy.

School fencing is one of the things that the people at Zaun specialize in. They can show you all the best material for school fencing, security fencing, and just decorative fencing.
