subject: Sherlock Holmes Or Iron Man? [print this page] If you have seen both series, as I have, I have a hard time deciding which one I like better: Sherlock Holmes or Iron Man? Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite actors as far as personality and translating that to the screen, but Im not so sure I could choose which character I enjoy the most.
According to Facebook, more people are a fan of Iron Man than Sherlock by about about a million likes. This was on the latest movies. He admits to preparing feverishly for Iron man, so perhaps Sherlock was just a little ho hum?
If I had lived in the time of Sherlock Holmes, the enigmatic reclusive guy would have piqued my curiosity for sure. He had such power of logic and deduction that I do not possess so when he points out his findings, it is like magic. Robert Downey Jr. brings this sleuth from my youth to life and makes me want to be there solving mysteries beside him. Now, Sherlock has no super powers, he even fights his inner demons every day and they pretty much win. But he prevails when it really matters, which is more than most average people can say for themselves. Most of us allow our monsters to pull us down and rule how our lives play out. Heroes, all heroes, step up when their bravery and skills are called upon. Yes, Holmes has a special place in my heart.
Iron Man on the other hand, is a complete and total superhero. His circumstances are much different from our beloved detective. Iron Man was a childhood favorite of mine and also of Downey Jr.. Facebook shows a whopping 4,144,842 likes on their site for Iron Man 2 and do you think that is the entire population that loves the character? I know not, for I myself have not even liked their page. Ha! But what I enjoy about Tony Stark/Iron Man, is that he is a bad guy gone good, well, as good as he gets. I appreciate the fact that he doesnt change so much that he is unbelievable in the movies. He has so much humor that I will watch them again to laugh and get my fill. He gives hope to us that although he comes out of his circumstances with a handicap, that he is still able to be a hero, to help others. The problem doesnt bring him down. Now, I love Batman also as a superhero, but he seems to gain his motivation from anger, from what happened to him in his past. While that is all very touching and sad, I enjoy seeing that a superhero can be damaged and come out of it with the attitude of helping others, to put their disability to use. I think Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect fit for the character of Tony Stark. I really cant think of anyone better.
So who do I like better in the end? I truly cannot decide for they are totally different people. I watch every movie that comes out, excited as if it were the first one with each sequel. It is evident that Robert Downey Jr. is a comfortable fit for both and perhaps is able to relate to them on a personal level. Regardless of how he does such a spectacular job, Im a fan.
