subject: Highlights Of Nine Holes [print this page] I had never set foot on a golf course before I went to play nine holes the other day. I did all the wrong things, but I made some great memories that will stay with me even if it takes me awhile to go play again. Hopefully, you have as much fun reading about my trials as I will have writing them down for you to learn from!
I have to admit my feelings of intimidation when we drove up to the clubhouse that first time. My spouse went in and took care of the fees and the cart rental. We packed it up and took off, intent on showing me how to hold a club and practice a little putting before hitting the course. I was pretty sure I could separate my ego from the game that day and not care how I played, just learn the fundamentals and improve next time. That, my friend, is easier said than done. Your ego does get in the way and enhances those feelings of frustration, thus your temper will always get the best of you. I know this now, the grass knows this, and my clubs know this. My thoughts on curbing this is for everyone to play terrible! Perhaps I wouldnt have felt like I stuck out or didnt belong. Despite cheers of encouragement, I still felt ridiculous and I shouldnt have.
I dont really know what I expected to have happen. Well, yes I do. I thought I would get up there to the tee box, grip my club and swing, hitting that ball like the next PGA hopeful. That was not the case. I swung once and believe it or not, I missed! Not even a blade of grass moved. I was offered a few tips, took a deep breath and tried again. I hit the ball that time just to watch it lazily roll down the little knoll. I frowned and looked back at my party who was looking back at me shrugging their shoulders. It was a far cry from what I had imagined, thinking my ball was going to sail beautifully through the air like the other guys did. It took me three tries to get to the same spot as the others did in one shot. If everyone golfed like I did, we wouldnt have even needed a cart. I just walked from one shot to the other and had three times the turns as everyone else.
I do believe I had two hits that actually left the ground in nine holes. I had double the temper tantrums. I had four times the chunks of grass taken out with my 5 iron. And I missed every putt. The guys with us were comfortable enough to do the Happy Gilmore shot, although it didnt really pay off for them, and my spouse beat us all into the ground going just a few strokes over par. The important thing is that we had a really great time.
When I woke up the next morning, I can tell you, I didnt know I had muscles in all those places! It had been just over six months since I had worked out. I sure felt it. My spouse blames it on the temper tantrums. Ha!
I know that I can only get better if I continue to play. Perhaps I will start working out again to improve my strength and lessen the soreness! But all in all, I will be more prepared and know that I am no natural at this game. It will be something I do with my spouse to spend time with them, to work at, and enjoy. Improve your game by playing at Branson golf courses and staying at Branson cabins rentals.
