Puritan HD On Demand Edition Installation Instructions Video

Welcome to this brief video that will show you just how easy it is to download and install on your Windows computer, the Puritan Hard Drive On Demand Edition, hereafter referred to as the PHD-ODE.

After purchasing the PHD-ODE at Puritan Downloads, you will be given links on the Thank You page to download the installation file, "PHD-ODE WIN Installer .exe", and a short Installation Instructions PDF file - "PHD-ODE Windows Installation Instructions .pdf". If you have purchased the PHD-ODE using a computer that you dont intend to install it on, you can use the download links available on your email receipt or on the Completed Orders page accessible through your Puritan Downloads account. These links will be active for only 5 days after purchase so be sure to use them within that time period to download your files.

When you click on the download link for the installation file, either on a web page or on your email receipt, you will see a dialog box similar to the one shown here. The installation file will be downloaded to either your default download directory or, if you have so configured your default browser, you will be given the option to choose where to store the downloaded file. This file is more than 100MB in size, so be sure you download it to a drive with sufficient available free space to hold that file.

The Windows installation file is a self-extracting archive program. You can launch the program by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer or directly from the download list box as shown here.

A window will first open to display detailed installation and extraction instructions. Be sure to read these instructions before proceeding with the installation/extraction process. To continue with the installation, click on the OK button. You can cancel the installation process by clicking on the Cancel button.

After you click on the Ok button, a dialog box will appear to prompt you for a location on your hard drive (internal, external or flash drive) to extract the PHD-ODE. By default, the installation program will install the PHD-ODE files to your Desktop on your "C" drive in a folder called "Puritan Hard Drive". If you wish to install the PHD-ODE somewhere other than your Desktop, you can click on the button to the right of the displayed target directory and choose your desired installation location from the file browser.

The target drive should have at least 3GB of available free space to store the extracted files and the SWRB Master Index files when you choose to download them later. Once the files have been extracted, there are no further installation procedures required. You should keep the downloaded installation file in the event you wish to install the PHD-ODE on another computer you own.

The installation/extraction process will begin immediately after clicking on the OK button. A dialog box will appear with a progress bar providing a visual representation of the process. Please be patient while the installation/extraction process proceeds. This will take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your computer. When the extraction process is completed, a text file will be displayed in Notepad with information regarding the download of the SWRB Master Index files.

The extraction process will create the PHD directory tree, consisting of the main folder - Puritan Hard Drive - and four higher-level sub-folders to store the SWRB KnowledgeBase software files and the resource files (PDFs, MP3s and WMVs) that will be downloaded as you use the SWRB KnowledgeBase application.

In this video, the Puritan Hard Drive folder will appear on the Desktop since we have chosen to install the PHD-ODE files using the default location. If you double-click the folder icon, a Windows Explorer browser window will open, displaying the main sub-folders in the Puritan Hard Drive directory tree.

Double-click on the Apps folder. Here you will find the PHD KnowledgeBase Application folder and three other files. The file called Downloading SWRB Master Index Files is an HTML file containing links to download the Master Index files. Double-clicking on that file will display a page in your default browser, providing instructions and links to download the Master Index files. These are large files that may take a total of up to 3 hours to download, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. These can be downloaded at your convenience.

The second file is a PDF document, How to Find Specific Words and Phrases in Searchable Books. This document is a detailed tutorial on using the Master Index files. Please read this document carefully and follow its step-by-step instructions on how to setup your Adobe Reader/Acrobat application for using the Master Index files. You should read this document after youve downloaded the Master Index files using the HTML file referred to previously.

The third file is a text file called ReadMe and contains some of the information in this tutorial video. Now double-click on the PHD KnowledgeBase Application folder in the Apps directory shown in the Windows Explorer browser.

Scroll down inside this folder and double-click on the file PHD KnowledgeBase Application .exe (the extension .exe may not appear in your Windows Explorer listings, depending on its settings) to launch the program.
