subject: Search Engine Page Ranking – Proven Techniques to Improve Your Webpage Rank [print this page]

Search engine page ranking is an important aspect of getting traffic to your webpage. This is simply because most traffic comes by way of the internet and the top 3 search grab about 98% of the prospects right off the bat. So if your site is at the bottom of page 1 or lost somewhere between pages 3 and 100, chances are that no one is going to see it. That would be a shame if you have valuable information that can help a customer.

If your page is one of the unfortunate one sitting outside of the Big Kahunas showing in the number 1, 2, or 3 spots, it time to make some changes in order to improve your search engine page ranking. But do you know what's necessary to make that happen?

Here are some proven techniques that once completed will help improve where your webpages sit in the search engines.

First you'll want to address some on-page items listed below.

Title tags Write the title tag on your page so that it includes the targeted keyword or keywords you are trying to rank for. Do not overstuff this tag. The title should make sense to the reader while still trying to maximize your keyword usage.

Meta description Write a description telling the search engines what your page is about. Once again, use your keyword(s) in your description. Make the description understandable and compelling to the searcher so that he will click on your site while maximizing your keyword usage.

anchor text This technique simply means to make your targeted keyword the clickable link. HTML code is necessary to do this but very easy to do as well. The code looks like this:

keyword and your webpage address goes between the apostophe's while your targeted keyword is placed after the greater than symbol and before the less than symbol.

alt image tag This tag is similar to anchor text as it is the text the search engines see when referencing an image. The html code for this tag is: url" border="0" alt="some_text" />. As you can see, your webpage URL is placed between the quotes and your targeted keyword is placed between the quotes after the alt= indicator.

After addressing some on-page changes to improve your search engine page ranking, next you'll want to address some off-page items. This off-page work is performed to tell Google, Yahoo, and the other search engine how important your page is and build some trust with those engines.

Blog comments post comments on relative sites' blog posts. These comments should be constructive and beneficial while avoiding the spamming of other people's blogs. I mention this for two reasons. One is that you don't want that done to your site and the second is that your trying to establish trust and you want your comment approved. Spam comments will achieve neither of those goals.

social bookmarking bookmark your webpage. Bookmarking lets other members of a social site you are using know about your bookmark, ultimately bringing traffic. Those viewers get to rate your submission and can increase your trust factor when multiple rave reviews are given about your bookmark.

Video Using video with a link back to your site and your keywords in your description of your video creates backlinks. Google and all the search engines use backlinks to help analyze a webpage's popularity and authority. Plus, searchers like video. In many cases, video can obtain a high rank itself in the search engine for a targeted keyword.

Write articles Like videos, writing articles help create backlinks. Plus, article writing can help give readers useful content causing them not only want to view your site but take action on it as well doing things like, taking part in polls or writing comments. Search engine page ranking improves when Google and others see activity on a site. It's an indication to them that users like the site and find it useful.

Apply these techniques when looking to improve upon the placement of your page in the search engines. They have been proven many times over to help increase search engine page ranking.
