subject: Dynamics Gp Customizations Lets Take A Look On Them From The Distance Or Faq [print this page] It is good idea to have a web session with popular questions and answers. Microsoft Dynamics GP was formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics. Alteration was formerly usually done in Dexterity tool and programming in Sanscript. We would like to compose this small article in the manner of FAQ or small questions and answers. Feel free to call us. Lets begin:
Q. We would like to modify couple of forms in Great Plains version 8.0. Do we have to appeal to Dexterity programming? Are there alternative tools?
A. Please read documentation or talk to your reseller about Modifier module. Here you can reshuffle the fields on the form, plus add new fields and animate them with VBA scripts. It is not .Net compliant but it is very efficient in small modifications. You have to purchase the license to use the module
Q. We like the idea to do all the custom programming work in Microsoft Visual Studio. Are we completely off the Dex dependency?
A. Probably not as you still have to create Dex tables in the custom resource dictionary. We have seen the discussion between GP guru and VS programmer Dexterity is still out there and you may consider do all programming work directly there in Sanscript
Q. Our Dex software development project failed and we have to move on and pick new consulting firm. Programmer probably was in learning curve mode
A. Well ERP customization projects are in higher risks comparing to generic implementation. We recommend you to keep doing your homework on Google, MSN and Yahoo to locate alternative firm for second opinion. Important points here are to retain source code in Sanscript as well as Dynamics.dic with customized forms
Q. We are in pharmaceutical industry where compliance seems to be a big deal. Vanilla package seems to be good but it doesnt print compliance reporting.
A. You or your consulting firm should be able to design compliance reports in Report Writer, SSRS or Crystal Reports
Q. We are multinational firm with offices in Argentina, United Kingdom and China. Our major goal is IT and corporate control over international operations. We got a call from China based CPA that GP is not localized in this region
A. This is difficult question to answer. GP doesnt support Unicode and Chinese hieroglyphs in its native logic. Please consider the option of exporting GL records from Chinese accounting (SAP Business One or another platform) to text file. Then you can import the records through Integration Manager Module
Q. Are you available to come to our office for discussion and executive demo?
A. We are happy to fly out to your mega polis. We believe that better idea is to discuss your situation via Gotomeeting web session and phone conference
