subject: Why You May Get Scars, Stretch Marks or Wrinkles (How to Get Rid of Them) [print this page] Scars, Stretch Marks or Wrinkles have a several causes; no one reason. Here are some of the more common causes and How to Get Rid of Scars, Stretch Marks and Wrinkles.
Injuries Cause
The skin's cells and tissues can regenerate when an injury occurs. If they do not regenerate, then severe scarring occurs. The body's overall health and nutritional status must be good in order for regeneration to occur.
In the case of very minor injuries, scarring is not noticeable if it is present at all. In all other cases, there will be some degree of scarring. It is the severity of the scarring that varies according to the body's health and nutritional status.
If a person were not getting enough vitamin C, for example, and new collagen fibers were required to make necessary repairs, the fibers would be weak. Vitamin C is a necessary cofactor for the production of normal strong collagen.
Lack of Protein Cause
All of the cells of the body need protein in order to regenerate. A lack of protein in the diet could be one of the factors that causes scars, stretch marks or wrinkles that are deep or more severe.
Tearing - Stretching Cause
Stretch marks are actually a form of scarring. The injury is not visible to the naked eye. It occurs when there is tearing in the deeper dermis layer.
The tearing is a result of rapid stretching. The stretching is may be due to rapid weight gain or muscle growth. It often occurs during puberty, pregnancy and weight lifting. Hormonal changes may also play a role in their development.
The tearing will not occur if collagen fibers are strong and quickly replaced. Hormones called Glucocorticoids prevent collagen fibers from forming.
The Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones. Steroid use during body building and quick muscle growth are among the factors involved in bodybuilders.
Steroids Cause
Taking steroids or excess production of steroid hormones within the body may be a part of what causes scars, stretch marks or wrinkles of a more severe nature. But when it comes to wrinkling, the decreased production of collagen fibers that normally accompanies the aging process is mostly to blame.
All of these visible skin blemishes are similar in some ways. A scar or a stretch mark will feel smoother than the surrounding skin, flatter and something like an indentation. A wrinkle usually feels like an indentation. It does not feel flatter or smoother because it is not as wide as a scar or a stretch mark.
Free Radical Damage Cause
There are many factors that come in to play when it comes to wrinkling. Sun exposure is one of them. Free radical damage is another.
The primary common denominator of what causes scars, stretch marks or wrinkles has to do with collagen production. Collagen is not being produced, it is being produced more slowly or it is weaker than it should be.
Regardless of what causes scars, stretch marks or wrinkles of any depth, it is possible to reduce or get rid of them completely. That is the subject of my next article.
Now, all you need to know is how to correct the problem and prevent it from returning. The next article will deal with How to Get Rid of Scars, Stretch Marks and Wrinkles. See link for article in the author-resource box below.
