subject: Engine Stays the Same for the 2010 Cadillac Escalade EXT [print this page]

For 2010, Cadillac's Escalade EXT Sport Utility Truck is an all wheel drive vehicle features a powerful 6.2 liter, V8 engine. This same engine powers the base, luxury, and premium configurations. The EXT's engine is 403 horsepower strong, with 417 pound-feet of torque, more than enough to propel this luxury truck through any terrain even when carrying a load. The maximum horsepower kicks in at 5,700 rpm while maximum torque is at 4,300 rpm. To get the most torque at low rpm and to get the most power at high rpm, the engine is equipped with variable valve technology (VVT). This technology changes the camshaft timing in real time. This feature also helps enhance fuel economy and reduce emissions.

Although the 6.2 liter engine has been with the Cadillac EXT since the 2007 model, this year the engine comes fitted with General Motors' active fuel management system. Also known as cylinder deactivation, this innovative technology saves gas by actually turning of four of the cylinders when they are not required. Partially resulting from the vehicle's 6,000 pounds of weight, fuel economy is not very good. The city fuel efficiency is 12 miles per gallon and highway mileage is 19 mpg. Since the EXT is a FlexFuel vehicle, the engine can run on E85, but it gets worse mileage with the alternative fuel (9 mpg city and 14 mpg highway). and reduce emissions

The power of the EXT's 6.2 liter engine has received accolades from the automotive press. For example, Kelley Blue Book says, The V8 thrusts the big vehicle forward with eye-opening authority."
