The burning of these drugs such as tobacco and cannabis releases some of the active substances such as nicotine, and the absorption of these through the lungs leads to route of administration for recreational purpose. Some of the cultures even promote it as rituals, and consider it as a part of their cultural rituals which has been practiced from ages to induce trance and spiritual enlightenment. Some of the ways in which the smoking is practiced are beedi, cigars, cigarettes, electronic cigarette, French inhale, hookah, kretek, passive smoking, pipe smoking, and vaporizer. There are many ill effects of smoking which one needs to keep in mind while smoking.
Some of the ill effects of smoking are:
1)The probability of coronary heart disease increases by 2 to 4 times. The circulation of blood is reduced in the blood vessels as it narrows down the blood vessels because of smoking and this might lead to peripheral vascular disease in the smokers. This has lead to development of cardiac risk in youth as well.
2)Smoking ups cancer possibility. The probability of developing of lung cancer in men becomes 23 times and that in the women it becomes 13 times. The other types of cancer which can be caused by smoking are cute myeloid leukemia, bladder cancer, cancer of the cervix, cancer of the esophagus, kidney cancer, cancer of the larynx, cancer of the oral cavity, pancreatic cancer, cancer of the pharunx and stomach cancer.
3)The other ill effects caused by smoking are infertility, preterm delivery, stillbirth, low birth weight, and sudden infant death syndrome.
Observing all the above ill effects, you would definitely think that it is important to quit smoking. So, how to stop smoking? This is the main question to be addressed.
The two ways in which the smoking could be stop are:
a)Medication therapy: In the medication therapy, the main part is to replace the nicotine intakes with some of the substitutes like nicotine gum or a nicotine patch. The doses of these substances are taken at a regular interval and this helps to stop the intakes of some of the harmful substances like tar and poisonous gases. This treatment helps to overcome the psychological addiction and hence give up smoking.
b)Non-medication therapy: Some of the methods used in non-medication therapy are Hypnosis, Acupuncture, Behavioural therapy and motivational therapies.
