subject: Specific Criteria For Selecting The Best Rental Vehicle For Your Holiday Excursion [print this page]

There are some things that any one wanting to rent a vehicle should be aware of. The right vehicle is as important as the right rental company. To ensure that the get the biggest bang for your buck, here are five factors that you should consider before you take your next renting step.

The first factor for most people is cost. It seems to be the common assumption with many people who consider a vehicle rental that the smaller the vehicle it will always be the cheapest option, however this sometimes is not the case. You should always ask to be sure what vehicles the company considers to be its cheapest models. There are several variables that will determine rates such as the location, the look of the vehicles and in some locations a pickup truck can actually be a cheaper rental than a compact car.

GAS MILEAGE. These days the price of fuel is up. No matter where you are driving you will want to consider this expense but be sure not to over accentuate the importance of having a vehicle with better gas mileage. Depending on how many miles you are driving the cost difference may be relatively low and therefore it may just be to your benefit to select a vehicle that can provide you with the space you need and may even have a slightly lower price tag on it.

Unless you are transporting a large number of people or have a boatload of luggage to take, one or two people can usually travel pretty comfortable in most any SIZE OF VEHICLE. The size of the passengers should be considered when choosing the vehicle. Overweight or a large build person might rule out a compact from the start. This will be especially true if the trip will require many hours of driving. No one wants to travel with passengers who are uncomfortable, nor should they have to if the right vehicle is rented for the trip.

DISTANCE. When it comes to considering which vehicle you want to travel in, be sure to consider the amount of time that you will be spending in that vehicle and for how long you will be renting it for. These factors are extremely significant because if you will be packing your vehicle full with the entire family, bags for the week, and the family pet and will be traveling for several hundred miles you will need a lot more breathing room then if you will have the car packed up for 30 miles.

CONDITIONS. Road conditions need to be a major factor when you are selecting the vehicle you want for your road trip. When it comes to traveling on unpaved roads and even in extreme weather conditions such as excessive rain or snow you need a vehicle that can pull its own weight. Choosing a vehicle with front wheel drive, four wheel drive, and all wheel drive can really pay off for holiday travel.
