subject: The Power Of The Computer And Your Imagination [print this page]

It is amazing how much we all have come to use the internet as much as we do. It has become a part of most households in such a short time. If you don't have your own computer at home then you may not realize how much you are missing. With a computer and a high speed web connection, there is pretty much nothing in the world that you can't find out about.

Most everyone gets their daily news information from somewhere, but no where is as informed as the internet and getting this information is easier and faster than ever before. To put things more in prospective, think of the computer in your home as the door to the largest library and concentration on knowledge on the planet just waiting to be explored. Nowhere are there more dictionaries, thesauruses or reference materials available in one area and is open 24/7 for your convenience without taking up any more space than a small suitcase.

The internet is full of news from the four corners of the globe and all points in between. All news on the internet is updated by the second and as it happens from everywhere news is happening. News is just one of the many categories that make up what is available on the net. Movies, videos and games that can either be solitary or involve many players from anywhere are many other reasons people use their computer daily. There is no other tool in the home that can open up some many useful doors every day.

Like any other tool it is important to understand how to use your computer and your web connection and understand what the limitations are. One thing to know is the simple fact that there is a lot of misinformation out there. Just like you can't believe everything that you read in a book or see on the TV, the same is true of the web. It is crucial to understand that anyone can get a web address and build a website.

Website information is for the most part only as good as the source. Many of the websites are stocked with opinions or a third, fourth and etc repeat that allow the real facts to easily get lost. On the flip side of this coin there are several good factual and honest websites that do have the facts correct and report things as they really are. You will also need to learn how to spot scammers that are looking for either information or your money or both. Some of these are very slick and claim many victims each year, but the usefulness of the internet outweighs these risks, thanks to software that will protect you and your system while you are online.

Websites sometimes can be very misleading and the accuracy of its information less than factual or true. If there is questionable information, you can easily cross reference it with other better known and trusted websites that can confirm the facts to be true. This can be done very easily and will give you an ideal of what untrustworthy sites look like. You can quickly discern what is fact or just an opinion with enough practice. Perhaps the best way is to get your news from several trusted news sources. You will learn to keep a list of these sources in your favorites file for easy access when anything looks suspicious.
