subject: Grand Canyon Adventures: Cool Down With A One-day Water Rafting Trip [print this page] If you are ever in the vicinity of the Grand Canyon, do yourself a favour and enjoy a Grand Canyon Float Trip. If you choose to raft in the Grand Canyon, you will not be required to know how to raft. Your motorized raft will give you and your fellow passengers plenty of opportunities to relax and chat about the spectacular scenery.
This Grand Canyon float trip does not come with shooting rapids because it is a trip for the entire family. The river is calm for the entire route, and this particular Grand Canyon water rafting tour is suitable for ages four and up. There will be about twenty or so other passengers in the raft with you.
This Grand Canyon water rafting trip is an all-day experience. This tour starts off at around six thirty in the morning and ends about twelve and a half hours later. You will ride in a minivan or luxurious bus through the beautiful East Rim and Navajo Reservation. From there, you'll ride through the remarkable Painted Desert until you arrive at Glen Canyon Dam. At this point, you and the other tour participants will get into your motorized raft.
After a two-hour river voyage, you'll land and have ample opportunity to study the ancient Native American artwork inscribed on the mountainsides. When you're done, you'll have plenty of time for a relaxing lunch on the beach. When lunch is over, you will get back into the raft and resume floating down the river. Your minivan or luxury motor coach will pick you up when you arrive at Lee's Ferry and return you to your hotel after another scenic drive.
This Grand Canyon float trip also runs in the opposite direction. Instead of going from the Grand Canyon Dam to Lee's Ferry, you can go from Lee's Ferry to the Grand Canyon Dam. After picking you up, your coach will drive along the South Rim of the canyon and then return you to your hotel. Both Grand Canyon float trips are available between March 1 and November 15 every year.
If you do not choose to ride on buses or you have already taken a rafting tour through the Grand Canyon, then think about how much fun you could have rafting down the Colorado River. Or, a Grand Canyon Old West Jeep tour is another option. You could even combine both tours into one totally terrific 12-hour day. Your jeep ride will pick you up at either the location of Flagstaff at seven in the morning or at Williams at six thirty in the morning. You'll then embark on a two-hour journey through the Coconino National Forest and the Navajo Reservation to Page, Arizona. Once you leave Page, Arizona, you will go through a mountain tunnel that is two miles long and continue driving until you get to the Glen Canyon Dam. You'll then board a raft at the dam and begin your relaxing 15-mile trip down the smooth Colorado River. After a nice lunch, you will have the opportunity to do see Native American artwork. You could also have a quick swim or do a little bird watching.
Then you will have to keep on water rafting down the river until you reach Lee's Ferry. Then, you will have a bus ride back to where you started from, which is either Williams or Flagstaff. But, as you are riding back to this starting point, you will have a quick stopover at the Cameron Trading Post. This is where you can get a few souvenirs for your return trip, as well as a few snacks for the road. You can get these tours during the period of March 15th and October 15th.
