subject: Helicopters Are The Most Exciting Way For You To Explore The Grand Canyon [print this page]

If you want to experience the Grand Canyon National Park, the heli tours are the way to go. Those who only have a day or two to explore the park will also welcome the aerial views.

Points of Departure

The West Rim and the South Rim are currently the only two places helicopters are allowed to cover. Assuming you've started from Vegas, you will probably want to visit the West Rim. It is only a 120 mile ride from the city to the West Rim.

For those who truly wish to see the South Rim of the canyon, a 45 minute diversion and transfer by airplane will be necessary. Outside the main gates of the national Park you will find Tusayan, which launches the South Rim helicopter tours. If you are driving from Phoenix, Scottsdale, or Sedona, this is more than likely the best helicopter tour for you.

Helicopter Tours

Compared to the South Rim tours, the West Rim provides more side trips. Of course, there's the air-only tour, but many travelers want more and Vegas tour operators deliver. Most people like the landing tour. After descending the four thousand feet to the bottom, you will land. At the bottom you will likely enjoy a Champagne picnic. There's plenty of time to explore, too. There's also an opportunity to add a Grand Canyon river rafting trip to this package.

The other popular West Rim landing tour is the Skywalk. This package includes full access to the fabulous glass walkway. This is a great piece of modern engineering that will let you to walk past the edge of the rim. Some 4,000 feet below you roils the Colorado River.

On the South Rim you will find a plethora of natural beauty. Nothing shows this off better than a heli tour. The South Rim features no landing strips. The most popular flight takes you over the Kaibab Plateau and into the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest part of the canyon, before turning back at the North Rim. The fight time is thirty minutes initially, but it can be extended to fifty minutes. You can also upgrade to the super-sleek EcoStar 130 helicopter.

Find the Best Deal!

There are two simple things you need to do to get the best deal on a canyon helicopter tour. First, reserve in advance. You would certainly benefit from reserving one or two months ahead. Next, shop the Internet. On the internet, there are plenty of great deals. I regularly find special promotions in which you can save up to 35%. It takes a little work but it's worth it.

Buckle Up!

When it comes to exploring the national park, the Grand Canyon Heli tours are the best way. Flights can travel to the West Rim and of course the South Rim.
