subject: Panasonic Microwave Ovens Offer Clever Cooking Solutions [print this page]

Since microwaves were first introduced the market in the 1960s they have undergone significant technological advances. This means that microwaves now offer one of the most efficient and convenient tools for cooking in the kitchen. Using a microwave is far more energy efficient and quicker than a cooker and if you invest in a microwave with a grill or a combination microwave then it will even brown your food in the same way that a regular oven or grill would. The only real downside to using a microwave instead of a cooker is size and this is why you will find few households that have decided to ditch their oven altogether in favour of a microwave.

In order to combat the issue of space and capacity there are a few design features that manufacturers of modern microwaves have decided to incorporate. First and most obviously is the size of the microwave itself. While some compact designs have a 17 litre capacity there are larger family microwaves that offer a capacity of 27 litres or more. In order to make the most of the space within some microwaves have an extendable turntable or dual shelving that can be adjusted. Other microwave designs have removed the need for a turntable altogether by using a new pulse microwave technology that cooks the food evenly without needing to rotate it.

Even the most basic microwaves now offer a range of programmes for reheating, defrosting or cooking food. More advanced designs will detect the weight of your food and adjust their settings accordingly. Other designs even hold a memory bank of the programmes you use most frequently or adjust the cooking times and temperature according to the food type you enter. This makes the microwave even more convenient and easy to use when you are pushed for time.

Power is another important feature as this will determine how quickly your food is cooked. The highest power level will vary between models and generally more expensive designs offer more power. A good microwave will allow you to adjust the power levels easily depending on what you are cooking. For example, a simple defrost will only require a fraction of the power of cooking something thoroughly. The technology used to cook food will vary between models and you may find that some designs have the ability to heat and cook food more evenly than others. This is why it is always a good idea to check the reviews and features of different models before purchasing a new microwave.
