Recently, I caught up with a friend of school after ten long years. As our conversation progressed over a coffee, I was surprised to learn that she was working as a medical assistant in a large healthcare centre. It made me curious to learn about this profile as secretly I nursed a desire to join the healthcare industry. She gave me advice on the type of medical assistant training program to pursue and the courses involved.

In the section below, I have discussed some important subjects that form a part of medical assistant training for the knowledge of aspirants

Pharmacology Pharmacology is the science of medicine and by studying this subject a medical assistant can focus on different types of drugs and learn how they function. Those doing the training will also learn about therapeutic properties of the various drugs along with their correct usage. The dosage and the administration of different drugs are taught to the candidate in this subject.

Medical Insurance- Insurance is important in order to cover the expenses of all the medical charges in the United States. As an administrative role, a medical assistant may have to get in touch with the insurance company about bills and payments. Hence, the subject of medical insurance is taught to the students to understand medical insurance bills and to understand its jargon.

Bookkeeping- Students are also taught in many courses the various aspects involved in bookkeeping such as writing checks, medical billing, coding, accounting and management of finances in a medical facility.

Patient care One of the important aspects of every medical assistant position is patient care or providing proper care to the patient. Most classes of patient care are important as they teach many vital skills to the students that deal with reviewing patients charts, front office skills, records management and the set of basic medical terminology.

Bacteriology or transmission of sound An important aspect of the profile of a medical assistant is the knowledge f the spread of diseases, contamination along with the teaching of rules that have been specified by various government agencies that includes occupational health and safety management.

Electrocardiography - This subject teaches the working of the heart and the tracing of any type of abnormalities. Infact one of the various career alternatives available for a medical assistant is that of an EKT technician, hence the knowledge of electrocardiography offers a knowledge about the testing of the electrical impulses of the heart by stress testing or by the holter monitor. For more info about medical assistant training visit http://www.manhattaninstitute.com.
