subject: Are You Interested In Contact Lenses In Canada? [print this page]

More than ninety five percent of Canadians will end up with degenerating eyesight during their lives. The lucky few who manage to avoid this condition have truly won the genetic lottery as impaired eyesight is a factor for the majority of the population. Of that ninety-five percent, more than fifty percent develop their medically recognized eye condition before the age of forty five. Most people can choose between three popular eyesight remedies: spectacles with prescription lenses, laser eye surgery or contact lenses in Canada.

The first option that most people, who are relatively new to their eyesight condition will consider, is spectacles, commonly known as eyeglasses, or simply "glasses". There are a number of benefits to wearing glasses. For children, glasses are often the natural choice and can come in a variety of fun and colorful plastic frames. Children's glasses are especially designed to be extra-sturdy, and the lenses are made of high-density plastic rather than glass. For the adult, the choice of frames on the market today is wider than ever before. There is a choice between metallic and plastic frames, and a variety of shapes and sizes - the recent revival of the black oblong frames has proved that a classic style never goes out of fashion. There are both male, female and unisex styles on offer, as well as discount offers. Children and seniors will often have some percentage discount from the purchase price. Many stores offer deals such as a free pair of sunglasses with every purchase, or free frames with a purchase of thin lenses.

Aside from spectacles, many adults can opt for contact lenses. Over sixty percent of adults who originally start out wearing glasses eventually transition to contact lenses. Many adults find wearing glasses to be burdensome and awkward, or find that the eventual blurring and discoloration of the lenses becomes intolerable. Glasses are also fragile and can be easily knocked off a dresser or table, leading to expensive repairs. Some people also prefer the wearing contact lenses for aesthetic reasons.

There is a variety of contact lenses to suit all lifestyles, from those that need to be replaced daily, to the "semi-permanent" which can be bathed in a saline solution overnight and worn again. Contact lenses also come in several textures, hard or soft, dependent on patient preference. Since 2009 contact lenses in Canada have been the most popular form of visual correction. Contact lenses are easily portable and with good maintenance, can last for several months without needing to be replaced. Once mastered, the process of placing the lens onto the eyeball becomes second nature to many. The process of cleansing and placement soon becomes second nature, often requiring only a few minutes.
