subject: Understanding The Value Of A Yearbook [print this page]

A yearbook is a record book put together in a school or college which records important, amusing, and fun to read information about the activities of students in the school. The team members that put together a yearbook are most often students in the school. The event book will capture memorable happenings in the year where either the entire school participated or only the final year students were involved.

As a record book, yearbooks help students to bring up interesting memories long after they have left the school. As such, the main interest of the material is the students in their final year to capture their times just before life took them wherever life did take them. This memory value of a year book makes it a valuable item for most people and the team that puts it together does their best to make it valuable.

Some segments in a yearbook make it such a valuable book to have. For instance the section that carries people's photos carries loads of memories. Each yearbook will have page or more dedicated to student photos and every student must have a picture on the publication. That picture is usually worth many words in later years as students can look back and tell so much from that picture.

A picture taken a decade earlier can trigger the realization that age does indeed change one's looks, and that the people that were close no longer are. That static record is what makes yearbooks so precious. If not looked at in a long time, one is often shocked to notice that the people around them today were as a matter of fact people they were in school with.

Most schools and colleges, may opt to include other events into the yearbook that were of notable mention such as events that honored best performers, sports events, and any other thing that took place in the year that the school would like to have on record. In that way, a yearbook also becomes valuable to the school too.

Narrations of this nature are made out in text and have pictures accompanying them to further illustrate the events. For entertainment, yearbooks will always contain a section that gives the usual school rumor mill some dignity. It is in this section that you will find items like who is likely to be the next president' out of the members of the class.

Such ramblings and vague guesswork uplift some people in the year to some imagined status that is often hilariously entertaining when read years later. As the world has moved more into digital production of information, yearbooks are not constrained to just hardcopy production. Many schools and colleges are taking their yearbooks online as downloadable publications.

In some institutions, this edition is for sale and can continue to generate the school some income to enable them produce the yearbook in the subsequent year. Depending on the size and the paper and the amount of photography yearbooks can be costly and therefore that income goes to good use.
