subject: School Reunions Are No Longer Popular Because Of Social Networks [print this page]

You would now be hard pressed to walk into a school reunion and have much of anything interesting to talk about. School reunions are all about reconnecting with old friends that you haven't heard from for years. The excitement lies in finding out what they are doing today, but with social networks there is a good chance that you already know. You won't have much to talk about because all of their interesting news was already plastered up on Facebook for all to see.

Since you can check up on any of the classmates you are interested in you don't have to sit and wonder what they are doing and you really don't have any reason to make your way over to that reunion, other than wanting to see them in person.

Not only can you see every status update that your friends post on their pages, but you can chat with anyone that you choose to as well, right there on the site. Which means anyone you want to talk to is just a few clicks away.

It is possible that there are some situations where you might not have kept up with friends as much as you could have or would liked to. Some people don't believe in technology and they avoid the internet like the plague. In instances like these a reunion will actually be useful because the lives of those you went to school with is probably a mystery.

There is a possibility that some people will experience situations like that, but most of the time that just isn't going to happen. The majority of the people today have access to one or more computers and plenty of those people get on social networks regularly to find out what is going on with everyone. If you really want to meet up with those from your past it is easily accomplished without the need to go to an organized school event.

While reunions do provide a chance to meet up with people that you haven't seen for years, it really isn't your only opportunity any longer. Chances are that most of the people you were friends with in Highschool are already on your friends list on Facebook.

Since your friends are already on your list, instead of having to go to the reunion to see old friends, you can simply invite them out to do something. By using a social network you can pick and choose the people that you actually want to see.

By choosing which friends to see in person you can avoid all of the people that you absolutely do not want to see. Modern reunions are full of awkward moments, and conversations with people that you never really liked when you were in school. Sure you will run into old friends as well, but is that really worth all of the trouble when you could have met up with them anyway?
