subject: Epoxy Floor Painting For Long Lasting And Attractive Paints [print this page] When it comes to paint basement or garage floors, the first thought cracking my mind is the thought of choosing the right paint. The paint needed to be hard enough to bear the grease & dirt of workshop. The paint should also protect the entire floor from the wear and tear to resist oil accumulation.
When I shared this with professional paint contractor they suggested me to go for Epoxy paint. The paint help to transform a dull colored room into vibrant color full with life and texture. The only problem with these paints is that it takes time to stick with the wall. For this the painter need to do pre paint work. In this article we will discuss the Epoxy floor painting coatings . and the pre planned work carried out. The porous trait of concrete soaks in the paint thus making the coating process really difficult. Similarly block basement walls disrupt the smooth application of paint, leaving no room for smooth coating. Third most important problem coming in the way of basement painting is Moisture. Epoxy primer is the solution which helps to get your desired paint even with the light coat of a brush.
Applying Epoxy Paint Process Discussed
Before applying epoxy paint you need to prepare the floor or surface (where paint need to be applied) first. Any such paint fails because of the poor surface preparation. Clean the floor with something hard like bristled brush and then clear all the debris spread over the surface. Use of low ph acid is recommended, it ease the process of scrubbing and the process is called acid etching.
After you have done with acid etching bring in warm soapy water and clean the surface to make it little slippery. It is done to reduce the friction. However this step will lead to some collection of water soluble contaminants that can be removed only by de-greaser. The mild acid actually is unable to remove grease from the garage floors. Secondly ensure that rinsing water does not get stick to the surface of the floor else you will need to repeat the process until and unless you get the complete dry surface.
When you have done with all these steps, leave the garage floor to dry overnight. The epoxy wall painting demands constant application. It is vital to check for consistent application. Humidity should also not increase the accepted level otherwise coat may blister and get discolored.
On an average a basement or hard core concrete wall demands for two to three coats of epoxy paint. And proper installation of epoxy paint may keep you free from painting and denting issues for years to come.
Now when you have done with the paint, cover the epoxy paint with the help of a paint sealer. It is formulated so that it can be used with epoxies. It protects the painted surface from staining and creates an easy to clean surface.
Your painting is complete, spray the sealer over the newly painted surface from top. After this wait for approx 2 days i.e. around 48 hours, sealer will dry. Remove the sealer and have a look to your own glowing wall.
