subject: Tree Surgery Services [print this page]

There are a vast variety of services that a tree surgeon can provide and it is important to know what all of these are as you may hire them to do one thing when in fact they may be able to help you to many. Here are a few of the more common services.

Crown Thinning

Often the crown of the tree becomes thick with dead wood or even with many different branches converging on the same bit of space. This means that there is a lot less natural light that comes through the trees and in gardens that require a lot of crown thinning this means that they can become dark and gloomy - and nobody likes that. As a result, many well qualified tree surgeons offer the service of crown servicing to their clients.

Crown Lifting

Effectively the crown of the tree is the part of it where the branches start to grow and move upwards towards the top. Obviously for a lot of trees this can be rather low and once again if this is the case they can block out a lot of natural light. Crown lifting - where the lower branches are removed to raise the crown can help restore much of that light, particularly when done in conjunction with crown thinning.

Pollarding

Pollarding is the extreme version of crown thinning or crown lifting where all - or almost all- of the tree's branches are removed and allowed to regrow. While this is a common technique in woodland management it is also becoming more regularly used in arboriculture and once again can allow much more natural light to filter through to ground level.

Branch Removal

Everyone associates tree surgery with the requirement to remove branches or limbs from a tree. Often people will hire a tree surgeon to do this because the offending piece of timber it too large for them to do so without assistance and a tree surgeon will have the necessary professional expertise to ensure that the task is carried out both safely and effectively.

Hedge Cutting

There are times when hedges are so large or so long or so overgrown that only a professional can do the job of cutting them adequately, and this is where tree surgeons come in, as they utilise their expertise to make sure that the task is completed effectively.

As you can see there are a number of tasks that tree surgeons can help you with, although they are not limited to just those on this list.
