Make test bricks. Pour your adobe mix into wooden forms. Screed or level the top by dragging a board across it at an angle. Allow the bricks to dry. Remove the forms after one to two days, after the bricks have set. Turn the bricks on edge once you can handle them gently without breakage. This takes a few days to a week, depending on the weather. Rotate and turn the bricks onto the other edge after two to three days. The entire drying process takes about two weeks under dry conditions.
Check for cracks as your block machine dry. Shelter the adobes from excessive wind. Add more sand to your mix if you observe deep cracks or cracks longer than three inches. Excessive cracking indicates material shrinkage and too much clay content. Allow bricks to thoroughly dry before performing any of the stress tests.
