subject: Uk Music Festivals Without A Tent [print this page]

When it comes to music festivals, Manchester and London often get all the credit. But there are plenty of other UK destinations that offer great days out, and the best part is, you won't have to worry about pitching a tent if you're not up for spending the night.

Nottinghams one good example of a UK city with excellent taste in music. They host Dot to Dot festival in the city centre on the same weekend as its in Manchester and Bristol (most bands play all three), but for a more traditional festival feel youll probably be best off at Splendour Festival, with its big headlining acts and park setting. Dizzee Rascal, Razorlight and Katy B will no doubt have the whole crowd partying hard, but we wont judge you for going to see Bjorn Again weve heard theyre better than the real thing

For an especially charming all-rounder head out west for Brisfest, which takes place on a manor estate thats only half an hours walk from Bristol City Centre. They havent yet announced this years line-up, but theyre known for having a little-known but high-quality variety of music, comedy, circus, art and theatre performers. If youre feeling energetic you can volunteer at the festival in return for a free ticket. Click here for great deals on places to stay nearby from www.hotels4u.com.

The Great Escape is one of the earliest festivals of the year, taking over Brighton for a weekend in May. Their enormous selection of bands is reliably ahead of the curve. You wont have heard of that many before you get there but youll gain many favourites who will pop up on the radio before you know it. Theres no camping to be had here, but you can spend gaps between gigs eating fish and chips and taking in the sea breeze, if you can bear to miss any of the line-up.

Oxfordshire plays host to Truck Festival, which isnt well known outside of the county despite the excellent acts and cheap ticket prices. This year you can enjoy Frightened Rabbit, Emmy the Great, Tim Minchin and plenty more. Hopefully the vicar will be selling ice creams and the Rotary Club will provide the veggie curry, because thats half the reason we go every year. Most people do camp the sites pretty tiny so its very convenient, but theres a local bus service to take you into Oxford should you feel the need for a more comfortable nights sleep.

Of course there are many, many more besides. Whether you like Steeleye Span or Slayer, your needs will be met somewhere this year. Buy yourself a raincoat and get booking. Maybe next year youll feel inclined to try Glastonbury
