subject: The Advantages Of Led Lights [print this page]

Since the invention of the light bulb, it is surprising how far it has technologically advanced but at the same time still been based on the original invention. In actual fact, the invention of the light bulb is second in brilliance to the invention of the wheel. It is for the simple fact that it has, in its wonderful simplicity, changed our lives forever.

With the problem of over population over the years, the difficulty in producing enough electricity has become a reality in every country around the world. This is where the saying adapt or die comes into true form. The powers that be had to assess the electricity problem head on and, instead of giving up they had to think of a way to minimize the physical power usage per person. Then came the invention of the LED light.

Based on the use of white light, which is uses far less energy than a traditional yellow light, it has proven to be much more cost effective. One problem is that it has not become as widely used as hoped for. This is only for the simple fact that one of human natures traits are to stick with what they know.

Various organisations including countrywide municipalities have started introductory campaigns where they would go from house to house and replace the traditional globes with LED globes. That seemed to work as it didnt cost the people a cent.

A wonderful thing about this invention is that, compared to the traditional globe which has a life span of 5000 hours, the LED globe has a lifespan of about 100 000 hours. When divided into years, this gives 11 years of continuous operation or 22 years at 50% operation.

Important factors concerning replacement cost of the LED globe is that the LED, because it lasts longer, results in a lot less replacement cost which, in a large corporate building can mean thousands or rands a year. This is due to the LED lights large reduction in power use. It is proven to provide 80% efficiency of electrical energy being converted into light energy. Only 20% is lost due to light energy.

This is compared to a traditional globe that only produces 20% efficiency and 80% lost heat energy.

LED lights are available in packaging of either 36 or 48 LED lamps which are both very versatile and can be used with any power supply or casing.

So when next you have to replace bulbs either in your home or office, you might see that the actual cost of purchasing from LED lighting suppliers are a bit more than a standard bulbs, but you would essentially be buying a globe that will last you the lifetime of 5 traditional bulbs, saving you 4 times replacement costs.
