subject: How To Save Your Marriage - Marriage Therapists [print this page]

There is no doubt that our marriages today really need assistance. There are lot's of them that are almost broken up and still do not have the faintest notion of what to do. Some have tried lot's of things. A couple have had positive results whilst some have not. How can these problems be taken care of to make certain of success?

If you want to know how to save your marriage, chances are that you've asked questions, read books, talked with friends and families and maybe also gone for counseling. The fact that you're still engaged in the search for a solution shows that the solutions have stayed elusive. How do we explain this? Are you the one doing something wrongly or are these solutions actually non-existent?

There are a lot of people who are no more sure of marriage therapy. You can hear people asking "does marriage counseling work?" This question is usually the result of doubt. This doubt can be caused by personal experience or witnessing the failures of others. This is something we need to look at a little more closely.

In beginning this issues, I have to say that it's not every marriage that would succeed, marriage therapy or not. We can mostly attribute such cases to the formation of the marriage. There are people who have no business being married. If you get married for the wrong reasons and to the wrong person, you're likely never going to be able to handle it. It might now be clear to you that you made a really bad judgment call when choosing a partner. All you do after the wrong choice would simply be very difficult. Except you find a way of rebuilding the foundation, the marriage is certain to fail.

Since we've stated that clearly, we can now concentrate on marriages that have challenges not as a result of a wrong choice of a partner. If there is one thing that is constant with marriages, it's that they encounter problems. How we respond to these issues can have either a positive or negative impact on our marriages. Opting for marriage therapy is very great. There are however some facts we should bear in mind.

It is really wonderful that you have decided to go for therapy. It is however critical that you are aware that going for counseling isn't an alternative to the things you need to do. Your part won't be taken care of by the marriage counselor. The most they can do is counsel you. The bulk of the work of repairing your marriage is still up to you.

Marriage works with two individuals basically. The job of rebuilding a marriage gets really difficult when it is left to just one person. Marriage therapy works best when both parties are working together to make their marriage succeed.

Another truth we should bear in mind is that there is nothing one partner can do if the other does not desire that the marriage works. We can really determine if marriage counseling works or not when we've also taken into consideration the commitment levels of the couple. The likelihood of the couple not recording success in their marriage when they are both truly resolved to making it succeed is really slim.

The best way to approach marriage challenges and make it is as a couple.
