subject: Middle Lane Hogs [print this page] My pet peeve on the motorway is people who drive down the middle lane, regardless of the speed they are doing or what else is on the road. It particularly annoyed me this week, when driving to the airport to pick up my father at half eleven at night, to find a man loitering at sixty, in the middle lane. Nothing in the left lane, nothing in the right lane, for miles, not just in the immediate line of vision.
Why do they do this? It's so annoying, and I'm not the only one that thinks so. Seventy percent of UK motorists polled would like to see the police given the power to prosecute these annoying drivers. The poll suggests that the large majority of us would welcome fines to the middle lane morons', who cause delays and even accidents by blatantly disregarding the rules of the highway and hogging the middle lane.
Says Paul Winfield, Operations Director of Motorpoint, who commissioned the poll: "Middle lane motorists have been the scourge of our roads for years, and it is clear from our poll, that Brits have now simply had enough, and want the Police to given the power to do something about it, if people refuse to move over into the inside lane."
On my journey, i also spotted a woman zooming along the inside lane at about ninety miles per hour, even though the rest of the road was pretty clear and if people got in her way, she flashed them, rather than overtaking.
Some people really need to re read the highway code! If you are planning on any motorway driving, make sure you have a valid Car Insurance policy.
