subject: Commercial Furniture, What Is It? [print this page]

You may be wondering what exactly a contract furniture company does? It is a business that supplies furniture in bulk, mainly to the leisure industry where furniture is in constant use by a lot of people.

The furniture is usually ordered in large amounts to cater for this range of customers which of course means they can purchase at a cheaper rate, passing this saving on to the customer.

However, buyers of this type of furniture are unlikely to be looking for cheap goods because the items need to be manufactured for strength and durability. These factors are absolutely necessary for commercial applications. Wear and tear is going to be an issue if large usage is envisaged in a commercial or leisure establishment and therefore contract furniture must have the capacity to withstand this.

There are many manufacturers and suppliers of this type of furniture ready and willing to sell in bulk. However, it is wise to check out integrity, reputation, industry recognition and standard before commissioning a project. If a product looks and boasts that it is smart, up to date and low on cost, it is worth checking the detail behind the outer image.

That is not to say that only expensive products are any good; it is advisable to be cautious. You could be buying cheap only to find you double your cost later on when heavy wear and tear kicks in. Comfort combined with durability absolutely must come before price cutting.

The other problem you may encounter of course is damage. This is not necessarily purposeful damage. Drinks, food, make up or other spillages can easily and accidentally occur at any function, event or regular daily use. The cheaper the chosen product, the more difficult it might be to clean or maintain in a good enough condition for your desired usage. You therefore need to think carefully about laundering, cleaning and maintenance costs. This will again affect wear and tear and the life of your goods.

Vandalism is not a pleasant subject to think about but unfortunate it happens. However, whilst not a complete failsafe, a cheaper product will more likely be prone to wilful or destructive damage. There may be something to do with human nature in this but many people will be more careful when a product is high quality expensive. Rightly or wrongly, it"s a simple matter of respect. So choose your supplier wisely.
