subject: Dental School And Dental Research [print this page]

Dentist Research: Dentist students and teachers at dental schools teach and train future dentist students, but also dental schools are a place where a lot of dental research is done. Dental schools research how to improve current oral and dental services, the oral and dental treatments that are being done to fight dental and oral diseases and dental and oral disorders.

The research that dentist students and dentist professionals do within a dental school improve how dental and oral diseases are diagnosed. This dental research may include more preventative care and recognizing signs of dental and oral diseases earlier on. Dentist students and professionals within a dental school also perform research on how to improve the treatment and diagnosis of dental and oral disorders.

Areas of Dentist research: There are many branches of dentistry in which dentist schools train dentist students in. Dental research is carried out in all of these branches of dentistry within a dental school. Some of these dentistry programs include general dentistry, periodontic dentistry, prosthodontic dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, and endodontic dentistry. A dentist student and dental professional can perform research within any of these fields of dentistry while in dental school.

A dentist student will have to complete general dentistry training and dental school before moving on to the other specialist dentistry schools. Most of the time one dental school will offer all of the specialist dentistry programs. Periodontic Dentistry is when a dentist focuses his/her dental services on the gums and ligaments and dental bone tissues around the teeth that hold the teeth in place. Prosthodontic dentistry is when a dentist focuses his/her dental services and research on replacing missing teeth and broken teeth with dental structures. A prosthodontic dentist also makes dental structures such as dental implants, veneers, dental bridges, and dentures.

More areas of dentist research: Cosmetic dentistry is when a dentist focuses on improving a dental patients smile whether that improvement is as minor as teeth whitening or as big as an oral surgery. Cosmetic dentistry is one field of dentistry that an oral surgeon dentist may choose to go into. A dentist also known as a maxillofacial dentist can repair dental birth defects such as a cleft palate. An oral surgeon dentist may also choose to extract wisdom teeth which requires oral surgery. There are many dentist specialties within oral surgery that a dentist may choose to focus his/her services.

Orthodontic dentistry is when a dentist focuses on positioning teeth correctly. A orthodontic dentist uses small dental mechanical tools to provide the services and dental treatments to move teeth to their correct positions. Pediatric dentistry is when a dentist focuses on dental care for children. A pediatric dentist is much like a general dentist, but with more specialized dental training and dental school in the area of dental problems and dental issues that children face. And endodontic dentistry is when a dentist focuses on the care and services needed to treat problems with the inside of teeth. There are more fields of dentistry that a dentist student may choose from, but these are the main fields of dentistry where dental research and dental schools focus on. Dentist.
