subject: Audio Engineering Colleges Are The Best Option [print this page] Going to a regular university for audio and media production has been a dream of mine since I was younger. I have been at the university for three years now. A friend has been going to audio engineering colleges and showed me how much better it would be for my career. I am seriously considering changing to one of the schools instead of finishing my degree where I am.
It isn't that the university does not have any classes involving making audio and video productions, they just do not emphasize it. Unless I make the change, I will have a tough time after graduation. Potential employers will hire the people who did go to the specialized school over me. My degree won't mean much at all.
Once I am working in the field being able to write an essay will not mean much. I need to know how to work the equipment and produce excellent audio and video programs. The difference between the schools will make a big difference in the work force.
Universities give a well rounded education for the first two years. They do specialize some in the last two years, but are still teaching in a broad sense. To get the same type of actual job training would proabaly take six years. They need to cut back on the core classes, the things you should have learned in high school.
I think I will get more out of the classes and enjoy them more when they focus on the industry I have chosen. It is exciting to think I will be spending at least 700 hours in the studio actually performing and learning all the duties I will have to do on a daily basis. Audio engineering colleges provide more than just a foundation, it would be similar to taking master's degree classes and the university.
Most audio engineering colleges have a program that takes about nine months to complete. When you get your diploma, you will be able to go into a studio and start to work. You will not have to learn your job while trying to do it. You will have already made the silly mistakes and leanred from them while in school.
I am looking forward to changing schools and getting some real experience doing what I love to do. There is nothing more exciting than sitting in a studio and making a vision become a reality. Editing, sound and special effects are the true backbone of the media industry. Try watching a movie with no background music.
Audio engineering colleges are not a simple trade school where you mess around with your friends and finish up in a few months without ever really learning anything. You will have to work hard and earn a diploma. It is hard work you will enjoy though.
