subject: The Effects Of Managed Document Review [print this page] The law firm that Mike was a lawyer I was going through a huge change due to a horrible error that one of his paralegals made. The error was bad enough that all of the normal procedures had to be changed. One of the new procedures was managed document review, and it was mandatory that every client's paperwork be monitored very closely.
The paralegal that did the screw up had to be terminated. The HR department had to fill a new spot. This time the HR department was looking for someone with experience, and was very detail oriented. Mike was also going to participate in the interview process. That was something he had never done before. He always trusted is HR department. However, due to the severity of the mistake made, he felt as though he would be terminating other people as well.
Mike had to sit before the other partners of the law firm and explain what it happened. He tried his best to ensure that the problem would never happen again. The firm partners wanted a progress report in a month after the new hire was employed.
Hundreds of applications and resumes arrived in the next few days after the ad was placed online. The HR department was swamped, but going through the resumes trying to find candidates that had experience, and had also worked at firms that were reputable. Mike was also going through whichever resumes the HR department that looked good.
After hours of reviewing resumes the candidates were narrowed down to the top 15. Mike took the time to call each of the references listed on the resumes to see who would be best for the job. Some of the applicants had put fake references on their resume, so instead of 15 candidates it went down to three.
He said of interviews with the top three applicants. Each of the applicants were very strong, but he was looking for someone that also had a great personality and would be easy to work with. One of the ladies had the personality he was looking for. He decided she would be the new hire, and set out for a brief moment to discuss his decision with the HR team. Based on her performance in the interview and her resume, she would be the new hire.
Mike's choice in a new paralegal proved to be very rewarding for the firm. She worked well with the other ladies, and all of the partners in a law firm thought she did exceptional work. It was a huge relief having a competent paralegal working for him again.
Mike implemented several different new policies over the course of the next month. The number one policy, the managed document review policy ended up working very well for not only the firm but for all of his clients.
