subject: Moving Pods Vs D2d...the Reviews Are In [print this page] So I'm getting ready to make a major cross country move. I've been looking into all my options and narrowed it down to the 2 that I think makes the most sense for me. Those are moving pods and door to door.
Both offer a lot of flexibility as far as locations. Lucky for me, they both have facilities in the city I now reside and the one I plan to move to. Either has storage available, which is important to me. I don't want to stress out over storage. So being that both companies have some benefits I like, I decided it was time to start looking at differences.
The most glaring difference, but could be worth it, is price. The moving pods are a significantly more expensive route to take. It's actually no comparison in that department. But I really like the idea of having the pod unit dropped off at my convenience and left until I schedule it to be picked up. That's really cool. I could save a few bucks and forgo the pod. It might be better to give up taking the easy way, to pocket the difference for something better. But time is worth something and so is my sanity, so again I'm on the fence.
I guess the thing to do now is what I always tell everyone else to do and start reading some reviews. I need to hear what users are saying before I get too carried away with my hopes for the pods winning! I know the door to door guys make more sense, financially speaking.
It isn't hard to find reviews, just a quick search and there's more than you'll ever wanna look at! There was every type of opinion you could imagine laid out. The good, the bad and the ugly. Even a few places I'd never heard of or considered.
Starting to see a pattern now that I have flipped through a few pages. There is an evident anti-pod movement growing. The voices are screaming out amidst the few positive reviews I found. And unfortunately those weren't even all that impressive and it seems they are from affluent people, which I am not!
There was a story on one site about a lady who had all her stuff ruined by a pod. She claimed they were dirty and she was in a rush. Unfortunately she found out after the fact and it was already too late. I guess the photos they show on their pages of the super clean, almost sterile pod is a myth. At least according to her recount of the greasy invisible goo that was waiting inside. Seeping in through the seams and door of the unit.
Yes, I know this is one story. And I will even concede that it could have happened to anyone. But the fact that the pod has a $2000 price tag makes that a big risk. On the flip side, there were glowing reviews over door to door. I guess I was hoping so much that the pods would be better that I was reaching for something that just wasn't there. And in the end, my rational side won out and I've decided to go with the door to door movers. I hope my move goes well, I head out soon. And I hope this helps any of you out there who are in the same situation...good luck!
