subject: Moving Pods Made My Last Move Easy [print this page] After living in the same house for 15 years, my family bought a new house and had to pack everything up and move. We had a mess in the house, trying to pack and move things about while still living in the house was difficult. My son suggested getting a couple of moving pods and storing things in them as they were packed.
It was amazing, the stuff that had accumulated and sat unused the various places in the house. Usually every couple years we would go through things, throw away all the things no longer wanted or needed and pack our favorite things in boxes to be stored in the garage or basement. When the pods were in place, it was easy to form a line and move the boxes from storage into the pods.
I thought two pods would be enough, but decided to add two more and pack things in an orderly fashion. One pot was strictly for furniture. The second pod had more furniture and the stuff from the storage. The third pod we used to pack everyone's individual belongings. I thought this would make unpacking a breeze.
Our previous moves were usually done within a few days. Things were crazy in hectic, but we would pack one day, load the trucks the next day and move into the new house the third day. We would use at least three moving trucks. Often we had to go back for things that did not fit in the first trip. This time, we actually started packing a month in advance.
My older children had to change schools frequently. I am very glad we have been able to find a house in the same school district for this move. The girls are in high school and have had the same friends for as long as they can remember. The idea of making them change schools now did not appeal to any of us.
My married daughter lives in a large apartment complex. She does have access to a community storage facility, and her stuff is kept separate. She hopes to be able to buy a house within a few years. When the time comes, I will suggest she use moving pods and have everything all together and easy to move.
My son is in college studying business management and entrepreneurship. Sometimes he and some friends make some extra money by moving people. He's the one that suggested getting the moving pods to me.
Using moving pods made our move simple. We were able to pack and store stuff in an orderly fashion. The trucks can then move the pods right to the new home. Unpacking was easy too. Too bad the pods were not around 20 years ago.
