subject: Sap Business One Or Could It Fit For Multinational Company [print this page]

When you are thinking about ERP platform then homework is likely required. If your case is complicated by international business issues then homework is also complex. We recommend you to begin with the following questions. First of all is software localized in the countries where we running our operations via subsidiaries? Second question is about budget or could we afford to acquire software licenses and implementation hours? Then think about templates as it is better to have only one accounting software vendor versus multiple systems to be integrated. Another consideration is IT infrastructure. Should it be regionalized or should it be centralized in the headquarters? There are also new trends such as Cloud model (hosting and licenses renting flavors just to open the list of opportunities). Lets try to open popular questions related to multinationals accounting software selection:

Q. What it is software localization and why it is considered as important?

A. Localization concept. It has two aspects. First one is supporting the language of the country. The second aspect is compliance to taxation and business regulation. Here in the United States we enjoy simple rules. But there is regulation as well. Think about 1099, W2 or W4. If you are implementing something like Brazilian Microsiga in the USA then think about if it supports 1099 printing and filing for example. Foreign countries have sovereign status meaning that they are free to introduce business related obligation acts

Q. Well it looks like localization should be respected. Why dont we implement Microsiga in Brazil and 1C Accounting in Moscow?

A. This should work of course but think about such issues as consolidated financial reporting (Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet statements), internal audit and IT control. Better idea might be sticking to brand name software and only one platform

Q. We have couple of comments. In large corporation the issue might be the volume of documents that should be entered in accounting on the daily basis. Business One is recommended as accounting software for small firms. Are we missing something?

A. These are good questions. We would like to note that DB platform is Microsoft SQL Server and you can deploy clustering technology to make it scalable. SAP B1 architecture has three layers: DB and application servers as well as client application. MS SQL is solid rock. Application server should be evaluated for performance. We have opinions coming from SAP that the number of users in the application might be up to two hundreds. Is it or isnt it enough to run mid-market corporation?

Q. Is B1 available in Spanish?

A. Yes it is available as in Latin America and in Spain. Please call SAP office in your country regarding compliance

Q. Does it support multicurrency?

A. Initially this application was architected in Israel with the goal to address international software market
